Orchestral Stream & Popular Music Stream

Overview

SEMESTER 1 This unit is designed to build on the foundations laid in Primary School Music classes through the learning of an orchestral instrument. Here, students focus on developing musical skills, artistic sensitivity and expressive capabilities, growing students’ in areas of self-exteem, creativity, and deep processing skills. Undertaking a weekly double orchestra session, and small grou instrumental lesson, students in the Year 7 Orchestral Program gain valuable life skills such as teamwork, patience, discipline, respect and an ability to focus on tasks.

Note: this subject continues through to Semester 2 as a weekly Orchestra rehearsal held before or after school

SEMESTER 2 This unit is designed to build on the foundations laid in Primary School Music classes. With a major emphasis on Pop music, students study music notation, value of notes, musical signs, abbreviations and aural skills to enhance their music-making. Students learn basic skills on popular such as guitar, drums and keyboard using Jam Hub technology to be able to play in bands. Finally, students use production software to create music and explore music technology.

  • To develop ability to notate simple musical rhythms 
  • To develop students' creative ability through digital music creation
