Art of Persuasion (Elective)

“We must contemplate the import of ignoring the printed word. If you cannot read, you can do only what you are told.” Joseph P. Bean

OVERVIEW

Year 9 Art of Persuasion will focus on developing the students’ reading, writing and comprehension of persuasive texts and deepens their understanding of the way in which these texts communicate messages and advocate change on a local, national and global scale. The course presents key social justice issues such as human trafficking, climate change and poverty as platforms to develop global awareness and informed opinions, then explores the way in which opinions, perspectives and objectives are conveyed through persuasive text forms. Students will discuss and analyse the way in which influential writers and organisations have engaged target audiences with written, visual and multimedia texts before producing persuasive texts, visuals and campaign videos of their own.
