“We must contemplate the import of ignoring the printed word. If you cannot read, you can do only what you are told.” Joseph P. Bean
OVERVIEW
Students grow in their knowledge that communication begins with God and that it can be used to connect with Him and others through reading and sharing His Word and communicating with Him through prayer. In reading, writing and speaking, they can have a greater understanding of God and others around them. Students develop fluency, accuracy, comprehension and make connections to texts whilst reading. They understand the purpose and structure of a range of imaginative and informative text types for reading and writing. Students effectively use punctuation, grammar and vocabulary when writing simple sentences and short texts and develop their conversation, interaction and presentation skills. Students use their knowledge of phonics and spelling rules to spell unfamiliar words. Students foster respect through listening and responding to others as they share personal thoughts and ideas in pairs, groups, whole class discussion and by giving short presentations.
