Digital Technology: Applied Computing & Software Development

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

OVERVIEW

This study enables students to:

  • Understand how digital systems and solutions can be used by individuals and organisations
  • Develop an understanding of the roles and applications of cybersecurity, data analytics and programming
  • Apply the problem-solving methodology to analyse needs and opportunities, design and develop solutions to problems and evaluate how effectively solutions meet needs and opportunities
  • Apply project management techniques to assist with the development of digital solutions
  • Develop an informed perspective on current and emerging digital technologies and disseminate findings
  • Identify and evaluate innovative and emerging opportunities for digital solutions and technologies
  • Develop critical and creative thinking, communication and collaboration, and personal, social and ICT skills

Students are to be responsible citizens in a global society. Christian character should be demonstrated in the way students collaborate and communicate using technology. They are to be ‘good workman’ in the creative use of the various tools that God has provided and be ‘wise as serpents’ in recognising and avoiding the dangers of technology while being as ‘harmless as doves’ in their personal use of technology. 

SUBJECT LENGTH

Each Unit is 1 Semester long. Units 3 & 4 must be completed together in a calendar year for a study score to be generated.

PREREQUISITES

  • No prerequisites

ASSESSMENT

  • School Assessed Coursework Units 3&4 (20%)
  • School Assessed Task (30%)
  • External Examination (2 hours) (50%)
