“Thinking cannot be clear till it has had expression. We must write, or speak, or act our thoughts, or they will remain in a half torpid form. Our feelings must have expression, or they will be as clouds, which, till they descend as rain, will never bring up fruit or flower. So, it is with the inward feelings; expression gives them development.” Henry Ward Beecher
OVERVIEW
Drama seeks to develop the students’ God-given creativity to engage with their world through live performance, exploring and ‘walking in the shoes’ of others – telling stories and giving a voice to the voiceless. This course gives students a practical application for all of their cumulative knowledge and skills in Drama. Students explore and research a variety of theatrical styles and genres including Brechtian Theatre, Theatre of the Absurd, Theatre of Cruelty, Musical Theatre and Theatre of the Poor. Students will stage multiple live performances based on these theatrical styles and will have the opportunity to script, rehearse, direct, perform and analyse their own short productions. Through their experiences of various theatrical styles through history, students will discuss and explore the power of story-telling, focusing on utilising their creativity and courage to spread the Gospel message through live performance.
