Waverley Christian College Kindergarten is an integral chapter of your child's educational journey at the College. The Kindergarten experience at the College aims to nurture, equip and extend each child in ways that empower them to succeed.

I like Kinder because I love to play with all my Kinder friends because I love all my friends. I love to pray to God.” - Shane
  Kinder Information Handbook

A typical day at Kinder involves the children engaging in a myriad of interactions, activities and experiences. We commence the day as a group where all children are encouraged to share matters of importance followed by a special time of prayer where each child is given an opportunity to pray. A short portion of Scripture is recited together and is accompanied by a Bible story. Our times of discussion can lead down many different paths as the children and staff contribute ideas and thoughts together.

This is followed by free play time for approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Snack and lunch are a favourite part of the day as the children come together and continue building friendships. Each session, a child is offered the opportunity to say ‘Grace’ before eating and this is another excellent experience to build confidence.

The outdoor environment offers many valuable learning opportunities and is always a much anticipated part of the day. The children play outside every session with wet days being the only exception. A quiet rest time is also necessary each day and is generally 40 minutes in length. The children are encouraged to read books quietly and then rest as they listen to peaceful music. Stories, songs and dances are enjoyed throughout the day. We share a busy and happy day together. Within the year, scheduled excursions and visiting guests are planned to enhance the program.

A developmentally based program encourages all children to become active learners and communicators. Within the program, educational objectives are identified which aim to help children develop character, skills and knowledge in preparation for their future lives. Many opportunities are provided for sharing, laughing, climbing, singing, dancing, experimenting, creating and expressing ideas.

The learning environment is constructed in ways that promote and encourage children to freely participate in a broad range of experiences with a sense of self-expression and attainment. The primary aim is for the children, through play, to become self-motivated and independent learners who are sensitive to the needs and views of others. Above all else, we desire each child to experience a special relationship with God and come to know Him and be obedient to His teachings.

Waverley Christian College Kindergarten has two groups - ‘Koalas’ and ‘Possums’. Each group attends two days per week from 9.00am to 3.00pm. The Kindergarten’s program is designed and implemented by a degree qualified early childhood educator and is supported by a Kinder assistant.
